Google user. Original Poster. GIS Lib. Platinum Product Expert barryhunter. Well looked at that webmap, some of the layers at least appear to be served by a WMS server. Its a bit hidden by some WMS servers can be used directly by Google Earthgoogle dont provide documentation, but see examples like I suspect you should cntact the owner of the map, to make sure they happy with you 'directly' accesing their WMS server.

EC has the ability to load alternate globes. It would be marvelous to stream these georeferenced historic map images into QGIS or ArcGIS or Google Earth and create vector point files to locate various businesses and industries found in 19th century business directories. I've been doing this sort of work for years, but have had to do the time consuming work of downloading multiple images of large scale 19th century plat maps from digital map libraries like David Rumsey, and then georeferencing and mosaicking them in my desktop environment.
The georeferenced layers of historic maps in the GeoHistory site represent literally hundreds of hours of processing. Those are made up of large scale map sheets which only cover a few blocks of Philadelphia.
To stream that into a GIS app the way one can with aerial imagery these days would be a historical geographers dream come true.

This request returns information about the layers contained in the service, for example, their content and geographic extent.
The information is returned in the form of a XML file you may need to save this to disk to view the information. This request returns a map. Using the information given in the GetCapabilities request, the user can specify parameters such as the required layer, the geographic extent of the map and the size of the returned image.
Please note that the longitude range for the global WMS extends from to degrees to allow plotting centred on degrees. WMS are designed to allow imagery to be shared over the internet, i. Please note that the quality of the viewed image may depend on how the software package interprets the WMS. The grid is based on a database of ship-track soundings with interpolation between soundings guided by satellite-derived gravity data. However, in regions where they improve on the existing grid, data sets generated by other methods are included.
Further information can be found in the documentation that accompanies the data set. Further image processing and inclusion of additional image layers such as the Blue Marble Next Generation land imagery was carried out using Adobe Photoshop. If imagery from the WMS is included in web sites, reports and digital and printed imagery then we request that the source of the data set is acknowledged and be of the form.
Two services are available, the global map as a shaded relief image or 'flat' map. Whilst every effort has been made to make sure that the imagery is as error free as possible, BODC and GEBCO give no warranty as to the quality, accuracy or completeness of the imagery contained within this WMS or to the non-interruption or continuation of the service.
Furthermore we can give no warranty that this WMS is compatible with any other data with which the material is to be used. The imagery within this WMS should not be used for navigation or for any purpose relating to safety at sea.Search your POI vector data or map layer data.

Mapping images that are provided through a WMS over the Internet can show information such as weather formations and conditions, topographical maps, alternate high resolution satellite imagery and more.
One of the benefits of using the WMS standard is that supported clients can request images from multiple WMS servers and then combine those mapping images into a single view. Because the WMS standard is used to get all the images, they can easily be overlaid on one another. Supported clients include QGIS 2. To work with other projection types, you will need to perform coordinate transformation in your client using proj. It's recommended that you use one of the well-known libraries since you are only transforming two pairs of coordinates for a bounding box.
Google Maps Overlays (WMS, Arc GIS Server Tiled Services)
Another example of working with other projections is to use a third-party application such as MapServer to reproject your native WMS on-the-fly, for example, to change your projection from Mercator to UTM zone Use GetCapabilities to first request metadata from which you can then specify the map images that you want to request using GetMap. Once you have retrieved services and data information from Google Earth Enterprise Server 5.
Optionally, supply the username and password if the database has been published to a secure virtual host set up with basic authentication. An example response for a GetCapabilities request is shown in the following window.
Determine which layer you want to display, then double-click the layer name to send a GetMap request to Google Earth Enterprise Server 5. The following example shows a map retrieved from a GetMap request.
Working with Other Projection Types To work with other projection types, you will need to perform coordinate transformation in your client using proj. Check the box next to the database you want to publish. Click Publish. To connect to Google Earth Enterprise Server 5.
If no version is submitted, the WMS request defaults to the highest serving version, in this case 1. Note that the target path database information is sent in the connection URL. A list of layers supported by the published target path database.

I am interested to import my own georeferenced map into mapit. Is there an extension that allows me to do so?
Optionally you can convert it to mbtiles and access it offline in MapIt using Offline Maps extension. If it is required for offline work you need to get your data converted to mbtiles. To understand well to this application I would like to ask you directly.
Is it correct? Please, could you provide me the prices? Thanks for your answer! Regards JD. Alternatively you can buy MapIt Pro and get all the extensions enabled. The price will be displayed when you click buy — you do not need to continue the purchase flow. Am I able to set an http referer option before putting in a map service? Will it import WMTS format?
Hi there, the secured services are not supported. WMTS services are not supported at the moment as well.Using Maps URLs, you can build a universal, cross-platform URL to launch Google Maps and perform searches, get directions and navigation, and display map views and panoramic images. The URL syntax is the same regardless of the platform in use. As a developer of an Android app, an iOS app, or a website, you can construct a common URL, and it will open Google Maps and perform the requested action, no matter the platform in use when the map is opened.
It is recommended that you use a cross-platform URL to launch Google Maps from your app or website, since these universal URLs allow for broader handling of the maps requests no matter the platform in use. For features that may only be functional on a mobile platform for example, turn-by-turn navigationyou may prefer to use a platform-specific option for Android or iOS. See the following documentation:.
To launch Google Maps and optionally perform one of the supported functions, use a URL scheme of one of the following forms, depending on the action requested:. This parameter is required in every request. The only valid value is 1. Additionally, URLs are limited to 2, characters for each request. Be aware of this limit when constructing your URLs. The map actions available are: search, directions, display a map, and display a Street View panorama.
You specify the action in the request URL, along with required and optional parameters. For each action, the list of parameters and their possible values are enumerated below. The search action displays results for a search across the visible map region.
When searching for a specific place, the resulting map puts a pin in the specified location and displays available place details. The examples below illustrate searches for the same location, CenturyLink Field a sports stadium in Seattle, WAusing different location values. Notice that there is a pin in the map, but no additional place information is provided on the map or in the side panel:. In a categorical search, you pass a general search term, and Google Maps attempts to find listings that match your criteria near the location you specify.
If no location is specified, Google Maps attempts to find listings nearby your current location. In the example below, a search for pizza restaurants in Seattle, WA, results in the following map:. Directions action displays the path between two or more specified points on the map, as well as the distance and travel time. The following URL launches a map in directions mode and provides a form to allow the user to enter the origin and destination. The following example launches a map with walking directions from Google in Sydney, Australia, to the Queen Victoria Building.
The pano action lets you launch a viewer to display Street View images as interactive panoramas. Each Street View panorama provides a full degree view from a single location. Images contain degrees of horizontal view a full wrap-around and degrees of vertical view from straight up to straight down.
Use Web Map Service (WMS) Servers
The pano action launches a viewer that renders the resulting panorama as a sphere with a camera at its center. You can manipulate the camera to control the zoom and the orientation of the camera. Google Street View provides panoramic views from designated locations throughout its coverage area. User contributed Photospheresand Street View special collections are also available. The first two examples display a panorama of the Eiffel Tower.
Example one uses only a viewpoint for the location, and sets the optional headingpitchand fov parameters. For comparison, example two uses a pano ID as well as the same parameters set in the first example. The third example displays an indoor panorama image. Example 2: Uses a pano ID as well as a viewpoint location. The pano ID takes precedence over the viewpoint. In this example, the panorama ID is found, so the viewpoint is ignored.
Notice that the panorama image that is displayed for the pano ID is slightly different, and more recent, than the image found using only the viewpoint. Example 1: Waypoints defined as City, Country:.Does anyone have a list of WMS server urls? My client is looking for something more colorful similar to google maps for mapping. Not sure what your client's ultimate objective is but the new Mapbox functionality within Tableau could be seen as an alternative to the WMS route.

You can add as many map servers as you want to a workbook. After you add a WMS server to your workbook, it is saved with the workbook and available to anyone you share the workbook with.
For more information about how to save a map as a Tableau map source, see Save a Map Source. For more information, see Mapping Concepts in Tableau. If your Internet connection is interrupted or if you're working behind a restrictive firewall, you can use the Offline background map that comes installed with Tableau Desktop to avoid any performance issues while you build your map view.
You can switch back to your WMS server at any time. Note: With the offline background map, you might only be able to access up to four levels of zoom. For more information, see Select Background Maps. WMS servers must support at least one of the following spatial reference systems to be compatible with Tableau mapping features.
